Rostan Tavasiev Homeland

The 8 meter long painting is a collection of the artist’s memories from childhood and their combination into a utopian Russian landscape.
In imitating the typical Russian academic landscape of the XIX century, the painting shows the artist’s attempt to elaborate his cultural heritage. The painting is stuck across the room – too big for the space it occupies. A little hare is squeezed under the weight of the piece; just as the artist considers himself suppressed by the homeland and incapable of handling its grandeur.
