The installation reproduces the sky over Bologna on the evening of 27th
January 2011. Constellations of Perseus, Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Triangle
and Lacerta are recreated by cream cakes placed on the floor. Each cake
is the same shape as an antitank mine. Moving around the sky becomes
a dangerous overcoming of a mined field.
The work refers to the advancement into space and everlasting conquest conducted by man. At the edge, stars turn into mines and the sky “falls” on the Earth. Unrestrained motion forward does not bring the freedom desired, on the contrary, it further reveals the limitations of the people who find themselves trapped by their own inventions.
