Julia Zastava Inside the thing

“This painting cycle is an attempt to visualize the space of existence. I investigate impossibility of defining what we remember and what we belong to. It’s the search for correlation between my own existence and the common one, between here and everywhere.” Julia Zastava
The seven paintings represent the Olympic gods depicted in a distorted postmodern air. The gods are hung on walls, incarcerated inside white frame boxes. The paintings are wrapped in a thin white net which creates a light shadow and doesn’t let their faces be seen.
Gods become prisoners: half-vanished, half-dead creatures with rubbed eyes and heavy make up. They no longer have their primary nature and now are isolated and forgotten.
